Passports and chilean identity cards. New regulations..

To obtain a passport the following steps must be fulfilled, and the following documentation must be presented:

Petitioner must be Chilean national

Chilean National Identification Card (Cédula de identidad o Rol Unico Nacional) If expired, must be requested together with passport. Costo US$ 9.

The previous passport must be presented

In case of not having any Chilean identification, it will be necessary to take fingerprints of both hands to be sent to Chile for filing and further identification of petitioner.

Anyone under 18 years of age that requests a passport must have authorization from the parents or from the legal tutor of the minor

The new passport costs US$ 83 (32 pages) and US$ 103 (64 pages).

The passports are valid for a period of 5 (five) years

Travelling Documents

To do this proceeding the following requirements must be fulfilled:

The travelling document is given to the child or person (without age limit) of a Chilean father or mother who is born in a foreign country with previous proof that the birth of the child has been registered in a Chilean Consulate.

Two color pictures, of size 4.5 cm. X 4.5 cm. (the pictures must be taken with the person looking towards the camera)

The document will be valid for two years, extendable for the same period of time as long as the person has not acquired the Chilean nationality or the nationality of another country.

When the child is a minor (under 18 years old), the father, mother or both must authorize the issuance of this document.

This document has a cost of US$ 30. When expired can be extended with a cost of US$ 17.
