Legalization of documents
A document issued by an American authority will be valid in Chile, only if it is legalized by a Consulate. To legalize a document it is required:

the document must bear the signature of a Notary Public

A County Clerk, Town Clerk, or the Secretary of State must certify the signature of the Notary Public

Once the documents bear both signatures, (Notary and County Clerk), they must be presented to the Consulate for their legalization.

This procedure has a fee of US$ 12 for each signature of the County Clerk, Town Clerk, or Secretary of State.
PAYMENT ONLY BY MONEY ORDER OR COMPANY CHECK MADE PAYABLE TO "CONSULATE OF CHILE".
The legalization needs 2 working days to be ready.
To leave documents: Monday- Friday between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
To pick-up documents: Monday- Friday between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.![]()
Documents that are to be legalized can be sent by mail. The cost can be paid by money order or a company check. A self-addressed stamped envelope must be included to return the legalized documents.

When the duly legalized documents are received back, the interested person must present them in Santiago, Chile for certification of Consul's signature, in the Consular Department (section “Legalization”) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, located at 1320 AGUSTINAS Street, 1° Floor, Downtown Santiago (hours: 09:00 – 12:00 AM.
